This is an exercise in exorcising demons
A cathartic blood letting me disinfect the wounds.
Death by a thousand cuts.
Lately, they're getting me to reconsider a decade of friendship, an adopted brother given abundant trust.
And in mere minutes you managed to turn that love into rage, hatred and disgust.
The love I felt for you's now dried up like a barren desert well.
The man I knew is now swinging lonely from a sheet in a prison cell
Inside a cage of your own making, behind bars, a lifetime in solitary.
I begged with you to free yourself and you voluntarily swallowed the key.
You always said “Wind In Your Sail” is a perfect hate song and I agreed.
Never in a hundred years could it apply to you and me.
Your mania indicates to us all that we still live in your head rent-free
But if you cross my mind these days, there is no hatred, just pity.
It's not my job, but I often think of olive branches only to realise
The living nightmare you unleashed on yourself has harnessed you and metastasised.
My deepest embitterment is that I knew there was good in you
Your years of dysfunction still lie ahead unless you trip and crawl back to...
I've grown to see Wind In Your Sail as the saddest song in history.
To ever think my hate would subside is a day I thought I'd never see.
I hope against hope you stop your slide down that slope and make your peace internally
So when you cross my mind each day, I won't still feel like an amputee.
